Yeah we don't have support for that yet. It will use the default branch,
but you can manually switch branches in the git checkout, and it will
stay on that branch.

I'm just a gentoo user and not a portage dev ;)

Anyway is your question about repositories using git?

For svn that is already possible, since you can checkout a specific
branch or tag.

For git, reviewing the current documentation, I think that is not
available, since there are no attributes to select branch or tag.
