Hi,

I need the glibc-2.2.5 for use with a properitary software that is
linked with this old glibc.
As I do understand the slot-system of gentoo, for libs it should be
possible to emerge the current glibc-2.3.1 and the old glibc-2.2.5
at the same time. Isn't it?
I figured out that compiling glibc-2.2.5 works only with gcc-3.2 not
with gcc-3.2.1
So I tried the following:
emerge --buildpackageonly sys-devel/gcc/gcc-3.2.1-r7.ebuild
emerge --buildpackageonly sys-libs/glibc/glibc-2.3.1-r2.ebuild
emerge --buildpackageonly sys-devel/gcc/gcc-3.2-r4.ebuild
emerge -K packages/All/gcc-3.2-r4.tbz2
emerge --buildpackageonly sys-libs/glibc/glibc-2.2.5-r7.ebuild

and at last:

emerge -K packages/All/glibc-2.2.5-r7.tbz2

And this was my last action... ;-)
Instantly the fileutils (ls,cp, etc) didn't work any more, because
the files of the glibc-2.3.1 were overwritten. That's the reason I
took precautions with building the .tbz2s and so I were able to
reinstall the current glibc.

Ok. Here are the questions:
Is it possible to install old and new glibc at the same time?
What went wrong trying my way of installation?

Is the answer out there? ;-)

Thanks
