hi! has anyone experience with ataraid (especially with highpoint)?

here my problem:

i have an onboard raid controller (highpoint) and what i do not like with
ataraid/hptraid is... in case a raid1 broke (one hd fails) it is not possible
to load hptraid anymore, because actually there is no raid array available
(its broken). so it is not possible anymore to reach the remaining working hd
partitions under /dev/ataraid/disc0/partx (where x = 1,2,3,4,...)

this is not the behaviour i really want from a raid1! actually the data is
intact on the working hd, but i am not able to get it of the disc! it is not
possible to mount it as a normal disc (/dev/hd.. od /dev/ide/../..) because
the raid superblocks, i think, don't let me mount...

by the way... is there a way to monitor the raid1 if it is intact or not?
i havent found anything...

one way, that would not cause such problems, is, to use the open source driver
from highpoint... but if someone has a solution for the above problem this
would be nice

cheers,
martin
