upstream release.
I encountered these words in the changelogs of the ebuild... lately I am
having a very hard time finding meamings of the words through google!!!

version bump means the version number is increased.
Upstream means someone above Gentoo issued a release.
Think of it this way - you have Gentoo who puts the
packages together in ebuilds, etc. but they use someone
else's package. For example, xfce is released by the xfce
people - Gentoo
