You need to enable the GLX extension en xorg.conf, ie:
in the Module-section (Section Module), append
Load glx
before EndSection, and try again :)

I use shorewall on my gateways / firewalls, but it's probably a bit overkill
for you.
A really simple setup can be done with firehol(.sf.net), but I don't think
running a firewall on a unix desktop is necessary.

Quanta+ is the best PHP IDE I've tried this far - PHPEclipse was pretty nice,
but since I couldn't open non local files, I used Quanta+.
gPHPEdit is pretty nice also, but a bit minimal :-)
