It's actually a Mozilla thing. The Mozilla apps are usually individually hacked so often you can't run one piece of XUL code on another Gecko engine. i.e. Nvu won't work if you run it as chrome in Thunderbird. There's work on this and it should land for Firefox 2.0 or Firefox 1.5, and it's called

All of these are built on the same set of libraries and each one downloads and builds its own copy. Is anyone investigating making the common code into a mozilla-core package? I'd really like a way to cut down the time spent building these apps. dcm
