Hi all!

Since PAM is obviously becoming more and more obsolete I was wondering
if anyone was ever able to sucessfully got OpenLDAP authentication
running on Gentoo without PAM.

I have a freshly installed, PAM-less 2005 test-server running over here
with a functional LDAP tree. I am able to authenticate users against
LDAP itself (ldapsearch) so we're fine with that.

But it seems there is no way to enable console login for LDAP users. For
all I understand nsswitch should be able to handle that perfectly (as it
does in Slackware) without PAM as a pre-requisite.

BTW I installed LDAP based on
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/ldap-howto.xml.

I'd be glad to hear if anyone had luck in that area.
