I successfully managed to run AIGLX+Beryl with the following system:
videocard: ati radeon 9200se
xorg: 7.1 (stable, from Portage)
beryl: 0.1.4 (~x86, from Portage)
window decorator: emerald 0.1.4 (~x86, from portage).
xfce: 4.2 (stable, from Portage)
