The --debug option (and --verbose, naturally) has no additional information. Running the --getbinpkgonly stops immediately, saying 0 packages are selected. I found one problem: on my server, my apache log file had a 302 fetch error for /var/cache/binpkgs/Packages. I touched it a few hours into the future and started getting a 200 for it. But still no emerge would fetch a binary (even though there ARE good candidates). On a guess, I touched all the files in binpkgs an hour into the future, but that didn't help. Binary updates are VERY useful for virtual machines. Unfortunately, there hasn't really been a resolution on this issue. I think it's reasonable that if portage accesses a package on a binary server and decides it's not eligible, it should report the reason for rejecting it. Is it possible to make requests for improvements in gentoo? In the current case, llvm-common came across as binary, thunderbird and firefox are also listed as a *binary* update, but llvm is an *ebuild*. Neither host (binary server) nor the client (updating system) have any USE flags defined for llvm. I know of no way to figure out what went wrong. Okay, maybe I've found what I was looking for: !!! The following binary packages have been ignored due to changed dependencies: net-misc/iputils-20210202::gentoo sys-devel/llvm-12.0.1::gentoo sys-devel/llvm-10.0.1::gentoo sys-devel/llvm-10.0.1::gentoo sys-devel/clang-12.0.1::gentoo sys-devel/lld-12.0.1::gentoo sys-libs/compiler-rt-12.0.1::gentoo sys-libs/compiler-rt-sanitizers-12.0.1::gentoo sys-libs/libomp-12.0.1::gentoo NOTE: The --binpkg-changed-deps=n option will prevent emerge from ignoring these binary packages if possible. Using --binpkg-changed-deps=y will silence this warning.

[gentoo-user] syncs not recorded in emerge.log for some reason.
Howdy, This is on the new rig, Gentoo-1. I noticed that for some reason, it's not being recorded in the log when I do a eix-sync. I usually use qlop -s | tail to see when my last sync was if I do a off schedule update. Since I went to unstable KDE the other day, I did a sync to. When I did my usual qlop, nothing. No output at all. I looked in the log file and sure enough, there's no sync recorded. I copied most all the emerge and log options from my old rig so it should record the same info as before. It all appears to be there in make.conf. I might add, all my emerges and such are there in the logs. It seems just the syncs are missing. I'll put emerge --info below since most look in that instead of make.conf anyway. Any idea on what I missed? I had to miss something. I'm also wondering why it isn't the default. I tried some searching on the Gentoo wiki but couldn't find anything. root@Gentoo-1 / # emerge --info Portage 3.0.65 (python 3.12.3-final-0, default/linux/amd64/23.0/desktop/plasma, gcc-13, glibc-2.39-r6, 6.9.4-gentoo x86_64) = System uname: Linux-6.9.4-gentoo-x86_64-AMD_Ryzen_7_5800X_8-Core_Processor-with-glibc2.39 KiB Mem: 65760424 total, 1083880 free KiB Swap: 0 total, 0 free Timestamp of repository gentoo: Wed, 07 Aug 2024 02:30:00 + Head commit of repository gentoo: fb3549a261759302fc4c4bafcd00c94883376690 sh bash 5.2_p26-r6 ld GNU ld (Gentoo 2.42 p3) 2.42.0 app-misc/pax-utils: 1.3.7::gentoo app-shells/bash: 5.2_p26-r6::gentoo dev-build/autoconf: 2.13-r8::gentoo, 2.71-r7::gentoo dev-build/automake: 1.16.5-r2::gentoo dev-build/cmake: 3.28.5::gentoo dev-build/libtool: 2.4.7-r4::gentoo dev-build/make: 4.4.1-r1::gentoo dev-build/meson: 1.4.1::gentoo dev-java/java-config: 2.3.4::gentoo dev-lang/perl: 5.38.2-r3::gentoo dev-lang/python: 3.11.9-r1::gentoo, 3.12.3-r1::gentoo dev-lang/rust: 1.79.0::gentoo sys-apps/baselayout: 2.15::gentoo sys-apps/openrc: 0.54.2::gentoo sys-apps/sandbox: 2.38::gentoo sys-devel/binutils: 2.42-r1::gentoo sys-devel/binutils-config: 5.5::gentoo sys-devel/clang: 16.0.6::gentoo, 17.0.6::gentoo, 18.1.8::gentoo sys-devel/gcc: 13.3.1_p20240614::gentoo sys-devel/gcc-config: 2.11::gentoo sys-devel/lld: 17.0.6::gentoo, 18.1.8::gentoo sys-devel/llvm: 16.0.6::gentoo, 17.0.6::gentoo, 18.1.8-r1::gentoo sys-kernel/linux-headers: 6.6-r1::gentoo (virtual/os-headers) sys-libs/glibc: 2.39-r6::gentoo Repositories: gentoo location: /var/db/repos/gentoo sync-type: rsync sync-uri: rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage priority: -1000 volatile: False sync-rsync-verify-metamanifest: yes sync-rsync-extra-opts: sync-rsync-verify-jobs: 1 sync-rsync-verify-max-age: 3 localrepo location: /var/db/repos/localrepo masters: gentoo volatile: False Binary Repositories: gentoobinhost priority: 1 sync-uri: https://distfiles.gentoo.org/releases/amd64/binpackages/23.0/x86-64 ABI="amd64" ABI_X86="64" ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64" ACCEPT_LICENSE="*" ACCEPT_PROPERTIES="*" ACCEPT_RESTRICT="*" ADA_TARGET="gcc_12" ANT_HOME="/usr/share/ant" APACHE2_MODULES="authn_core authz_core socache_shmcb unixd actions alias auth_basic authn_anon authn_dbm authn_file authz_dbm authz_groupfile authz_host authz_owner authz_user autoindex cache cgi cgid dav dav_fs dav_lock deflate dir env expires ext_filter file_cache filter headers include info log_config logio mime mime_magic negotiation rewrite setenvif speling status unique_id userdir usertrack vhost_alias" ARCH="amd64" AUTOCLEAN="no" BINPKG_COMPRESS="zstd" BINPKG_FORMAT="gpkg" BINPKG_GPG_SIGNING_BASE_COMMAND="/usr/bin/flock /run/lock/portage-binpkg-gpg.lock /usr/bin/gpg --sign --armor [PORTAGE_CONFIG]" BINPKG_GPG_SIGNING_DIGEST="SHA512" BINPKG_GPG_VERIFY_BASE_COMMAND="/usr/bin/gpg --verify --batch --no-tty --no-auto-check-trustdb --status-fd 2 [PORTAGE_CONFIG] [SIGNATURE]" BINPKG_GPG_VERIFY_GPG_HOME="/etc/portage/gnupg" BOOTSTRAP_USE="unicode pkg-config split-usr xml python_targets_python3_12 python_single_target_python3_12 gil multilib zstd cet" BROOT="" CALLIGRA_FEATURES="karbon sheets words" CAMERAS="canon ptp2" CASROOT="/usr" CBUILD="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=native -O2 -pipe" CFLAGS_amd64="-m64" CFLAGS_x32="-mx32" CFLAGS_x86="-m32 -mfpmath=sse" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CHOST_amd64="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CHOST_x32="x86_64-pc-linux-gnux32" CHOST_x86="i68
