Hi,
I upgraded recently my Macbook Pro to gentoo-sources 2.6.31 and I have
annoying network hiccups which I didn't have with the old 2.6.24.
By that you mean the chip works, but prints error messages that you
didn't see before?
Looking at the kernel commit

Hi all,
since Linux-2.6.24, fcaps support is part of the vanilla kernel.
If you also add libcap user and developer support and the commands
getcap and setcap, you will be able to install working versions for:
cdrecord, cdda2wav, readcd
without making them suid-root.
This works

And that's it. Be aware that you need to provide your own kernel
configuration.
Regards.
How does this differs from just enabling the symlink USE flag in
vanilla-sources?

Hi,
I got two overlays that I added manually with PORTDIR_OVERLAY on make.conf and
one through layman. Just I few days ago I added a patched ebuild for x11-
drivers/ati-drivers to satisfy some dependencies for the multilib update (it
doesn't build with the latest vanilla sources and prior
machine. Has anyone noticed how ambiguous
our English language is?)
Anyway, I rebooted the guest machine with vmlinuz.old (3.18.21) and
then updated the guest to vanilla-sources-4.2.3 with no problems.
(I omit several hours of confused reconfiguring/recompiling/rebooting
because you really don't
ly on 4.4.26).

I know Gentoo does some patching to the upstream sources and menuconfig has
additional features thereby.

is better, but sort of strange. For
gentoo-sources it gave a nice readable list. However for rt-sources it
didn't.
Any reason for wanting them to look different or is this a bug that
should be reported to someone? I guess the 'slot' for rt-sources is
'~' and maybe eix doesn't know what to do
un on recent hardware or with recent versions of other
software. You often have to keep around entire virtual machines that
have old tools and utilities.
If what you want is access to all upstream longeterm kernel versions,
then you should be using sys-kernel/vanilla-sources.
