Marius,
Thanks. The idea makes sense. I was pretty sure it was not the same
server, but I'll keep an sys out for this the next few times I do a sync
and see if it is.

The emerge.log file doesn't give enough info to be clear what
happened:

1073238775: Started emerge on: Jan 04, 2004 09:52:55
1073238775: *** emerge sync
1073238775:  === rsync
1073239009: *** terminating.
1073239169: *** terminating.

Thanks!
Mark

It should be the same server. It's a timestamp check, so if the server
has the same or an older portage tree as your disc it portage won't try
to sync it (as it would be completely useless).

In the beginning, there was nothing. And God said, 'Let there be

Hi,

I think this was introduced in a recent portage update. Its normal - I'm
seeing it on my PC's.

[gentoo-user] emerge - 1 file from a different server?

2004-01-04 Thread Mark Knecht
Hi,
Over the last week or two I've noticed that sometimes when I do an
emerge sync I'm getting one file from a different server first. After
this file comes in I get 70K files from some more normal server.

Is this to be expected? Why?

Thanks,
Mark
