Please be kind to people getting bored of the same question asked over and over
again.

The bug was an incorrect gcc version check in an eclass. The following line
should solve your problem.

$ fix_libtool_files.sh 3.4.3

When trying to find the cause of an error, search for the error message.
You would have found hundreds of mails reporting and solving the exact
same error.

A. Only two - but it's difficult to get them in there.

Actually, your hint about a one-liner command was sufficient for me
to find it last night. I had seen fix_libtool_files.sh mentioned
previously in context with other packages not being able to build. But
I didn't realize that it also applied to flac. I obviously picked the
wrong search term, which is why I didn't find what I was looking for.

Obviously, you have not done even the bare minimum of trying to help yourself.
This has been discussed so many times on this list, I can't even keep track.
The answer is a one-line shell command.

Let me guess... your last package merged was gcc, an upgrade from version
3.3.4.

Try searching the mailing list archives. Or Google. Or something. But you have
to at least try to help yourself before others will help you.

Walter the problem is not isolated to flac. Don't search on flac, search on the
library that is missing
