Adding more logging capabilities is always helpful. I agree with Brad that
it would probably be more valuable in core.

To me this seems like core diagnostics capability – if you need it on a machine 
where you’re doing differential diagnostics without direct access to it, then 
adding a plugin later is probably going to be difficult.
