Sounds like an important bug fix to me. No objection to upgrading asap
given that the expected side effects should be minimal (and it sounds like
they will be).

I don't think we need to do that. Our main concern right now is the
upcoming 2.1.5.
As I said I can hold off a bit for committing the change to 8.x.

We are release ImageIO-Ext 1.1.5 which contains a few critical
improvements with respect to bigtiff support.
I am proposing to upgrade the corresponding gt and gs dependecies, specifically:
- gt master
- gt 8.x
- gt 2.7.x
- gs master
- gs 2.2.x
- gs 2.1.x
