+1 here. I think we sorted out most of the issues involved with protocol
changes between postgresql 8 and postgresql 9 a while back. It might be a
good idea to at least manually verify (with the unit tests) a few older
database versions work with the new driver before making it the default.

Oh and it looks they changed the maven groupId for more recent versions of
the driver, from "postgresql" to "org.postgresql".

On my dev machine i am running postgresql 9.3.1 and just tried with the
driver version you specified and got a few failures, but not sure if they
are related to server/driver version combo or not.
