Subject: CA Global Warming Education: New Initiative

PLEASE FORWARD WIDELY

To California educators, students and others concerned about global warming:

Focus the Nation informational meeting.

UC Berkeley--  Tuesday, June 20th Noon-1 PM

103 Mulford Hall:  www.berkeley.edu/map

Focus the Nation is an ambitious educational initiative that will coordinate teams of faculty and students at over a thousand colleges, universities and high schools in the United States, to collaboratively engage in a nationwide, interdisciplinary discussion centered around the theme of "Stabilizing the Climate in the 21st Century". The project will culminate January 31, 2008, in the form of one-day, national symposia held simultaneously on campuses across the country. Working from a firm base in educational institutions, Focus the Nation will also incorporate participation by religious, civic and business organizations. Focus the Nation has the potential to organize thousands of institutions and, with effort, millions of participants across the country to focus national attention for a day around a serious discussion of climate stabilization. Our goal is for Focus the Nation to become an "Earth Day 1970" catalyzing event that can turn the national conversation about global warming from a tone of fatalism to one of determination.

Who should attend the informational meetings? All students and educators from K-12 through the University level interested in an innovative national experiment in interdisciplinary education; representatives of church, business or civic organizations; concerned citizens.

Focus the Nation is directed by Dr. Eban Goodstein, Professor of Economics at Lewis & Clark College (www.lclark.edu/~eban).  For more information, please see the attached project description, contact [EMAIL PROTECTED], or call 503-768-7626.

To learn more about Focus the Nation, and to help build maximum participation in California, please attend the  informational meeting on Tuesday, June 20th.
