POSITION: Assistant Professor of Human Dimensions of Natural Resources, 
specializing in Natural Resource Tourism

LOCATION:  Department of Human Dimensions of Natural Resources (HDNR), Warner 
College of Natural Resources (WCNR), Colorado State University, Fort Collins, 
Colorado, 80523-1480, (970) 491-6591

APPOINTMENT: Tenure-track 9-month appointment

The Department of HDNR seeks a dynamic and innovative individual with an 
expertise in tourism planning, tourism impacts, tourism as a conservation 
development tool or related topics. The successful applicant will conduct 
research in areas such as park and protected area visitor management, 
livelihoods and sustainable tourism development, international and 
cross-cultural tourism studies, tourism behavior analysis, or other areas 
related to this position. This person will contribute to teaching in the 
natural resource-based tourism programs. These include the Department’s 
undergraduate Natural Resource Tourism program as well as the innovative Master 
of Tourism Management program, Ski-Area Management graduate certificate, and 
Adventure Tourism graduate certificate. These programs provide undergraduate 
and graduate instruction for on-campus and distance learners throughout the 
world.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Required: 1) Completed PhD in Human  Dimensions of 
Natural Resources or related field by anticipated start date of August 16, 
2019, and 2) At least one advanced degree in an area related to travel and 
tourism, business management, and social science applications to conservation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to applicants with: 1) 
Demonstrated or potential for excellence in classroom teaching in areas related 
to this position; 2) Demonstrated or potential for excellence in the 
development and administration of on-line courses in areas related to this 
position; and 3) Demonstrated or potential for excellence in conducting a 
program of research and outreach in areas related to this position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1) Teach undergraduate level on-campus and 
distance courses in the Natural Resource Tourism program; 2) Teach graduate 
level on-campus and distance courses in the Master of Tourism Management 
program and the graduate certificate programs; 3) Work with Department 
personnel in the continued planning and development of undergraduate and 
graduate level tourism management curricula; 4) Conduct a successful program of 
research in areas related to this position; 5) Advance the Department’s 
commitment to diversity and inclusion through research, teaching, and outreach 
with relevant programs, goals, and objectives.

SALARY AND FRINGE BENEFITS: Salary Range commensurate with qualifications and
