I've never discovered if there's any GUI front end to gip. It's for
someone who's not so techie. Any suggestions?

I'm definitely not so techie as most on here. I always used to record using
just the Quick url, select radio (unselect TV) and press record. It worked
for a very long time until a few months ago. I have downloaded all recent
updates but whenever I try now it fails. Usually it cannot find the url

Yep, it is the Web PVR Manager, comes packaged with GIP (well, does on the
Windows version, not sure about the others).
