Tested with Bell on Sunday, Radio 4. Download looked OK, but the m4a
file will not play on my Marantz.

I tested your '3rd go at M4A' version.
With radio aac standard and aac low they created m4a files correctly.
The '--raw' switch still works too.
I downloaded a 3-hour radio show.
While it was muxing from flv to m4a I could see that it made 2 passes.
