Speaking of that, how hard would it be to make the toolbar buttons
also use the .xpm format? Now the icons are in the header files.. it's
pretty hard for a art.geek like me to change the icons or try
different versions.. Also for 'T0olb4r ThemeZ' it would be neat if the
pixmaps would be stored in separate files.

I did this before but unfortunately I lost this one and it wouldn't
work with this new widget the toolbar uses... apropos: When will this
scrappy thing be fixed or is it due to go again?

Hello

Well "feature" freeze is a wide term. Currently only Gimp (app and lib) is
in feature freeze (If I haven't missed a mail).

Functions such as IS, Bezier, Airbrush, brush scaling, context etc.. is
not finished. For me a feature freeze is when you stop add new
functionality. It's not when you change how a tool work (e.g moving Simons
curve tools to IS). It is not when you make the brush scaling work etc.
Neither can feature freeze stop you from e.g cleaning up the menu
paths for e.g plugins.

Changing icons is not (in my view) a new feature (adding a new tool is).

Cheers Olof

I don't object to changing the icons but I'm against it for the 1.2
release. I think that since the GIMP is in feature freeze the only
changes should be to eliminate bugs. This is an important point for
folks who are working on documentation, i.e., those working on GIMP
 books.

Oops :)

I committed some new icons to stylize the LC dialog, but whatever I do, I
will not be changing any metaphors or concepts in the icons so
documentation is still relevant. IMHO Gimp is anyway a moving target, and
I am just doing minor cleanup work on the icons so you dont need to worry.

I am also thinking of putting the Balloon splash screen, maybe with some
modifications, into 1.2 when it will be released.

[ OTHER STUFF ]

Speaking of minor stuff, maybe someone could re-arrange the layer mode
menus? Either sort it alphabetically with "Normal" on top and separated
from the rest? Or we could even group different modes together with
separators? Something like this:

. -- -
Mode: | Normal
+-- -
| Behind
| Dissolve
+---
| Multiply (Burn)
| Divide (Dodge)
| Screen
| Overlay
| Difference
+---
| Addition
| Subtract
| Lighten Only - do these differ from the above ones
| Darken Only - (addition subtract) ?
| Value
+---
| Hue
| Saturation
| Color
`-- -- -

Or if someone comes up with a better order, no problem. The idea is the
separators there. Do you think they would be useful?

Icons in LC dialog (and elsewhere)

IMHO a little facelift can't hurt and the anchor does fit better with

Hi,

Uh, Gimp users/developers are so conservative ...

I am not sure. Gimp is a drawing application and thus colors are important
part of the work being done. I kinda like the fact that the icons in the
gui are not colored. I dont know, what do others think?

It wasn't the lack of colors that made me propose this change. It was the
fact that the anchor and the trashcan we currently use do not fit at all
with the other icons. Same applies for the Zoom_In and Zoom_out icons used
in the Palette dialog. They do match however with the Gnome icons.

So either we come up with a new set of icons, use the Gnome ones or we
change the trashcan, the anchor and the zoom icons to simpler ones that
match the rest.

Most of the icons in Freehand and Photoshop are B/W too.. I dont know if
it is good to mix color icons in _gimp_.. I know we have some in the prefs
dialog which I checked in, but I am not sure if we want to have a
color-iconified toolbar? Since that needs to be done too if we want to be
 consistent..

I don't think the toolbox icons would have to be colored too, even if we
use colored icons in other dialogs.

Salut, Sven

Well I know that all of us has a full load of work. I think Svens work is
nice!! (I.e lets go for it). As long as he also makes the anchor icon
which in it's present design sucks (no harm towards you Tigert but it is
clearly not one of your best icons ;-).

Heh, no problem. I think it is a cute anchor :)
