[Gimp-developer] Gimp 2.8 plugins which not work properly with Gimp 2.9.x/2.10.x

2017-06-24 Thread Thorsten Stettin

Good morning, folks,

AFAIK there are some old plugins which not work properly with Gimp
2.9.x/2.10.x.

Is there any way to determine which old plugins don't work (properly)
any more?

I concern that some users could be confused if their favourite plugins
crashes e.g. I think that could be a bad user experience.

Any ideas? Blacklisting?

Cheers

Revert your libmypaint to a commit prior to the current one.

Don't go back look forward. Your opinion I cannot accept.
I wrote messages to Andrew Chadwick and Brien
Dieterle too.

AFAIK the both are maintaining the project.
Please agrees you.

[Gimp-developer] plugin development on a mac

2017-06-24 Thread Jason Scherer
Hello,

I'd like to do some plugin development and have been trying to get set up
to do this on a mac. This has been difficult. From what I've been able to
gather you have to build from source in order to develop a plugin, because
you need access to gimptool, and that's not available in the typical app
bundles that are distributed for mac. Gimp obviously has a lot of
dependencies so I was hoping to use a package manager, like brew, to
install at least those (brew doesn't install gimp from source, it uses the
"cask" feature to just install the ".app"). I used brew to install quite a
few of the dependencies but there are issues now where the "configure"
script for gimp doesn't think that gtk+ and pango are installed (even
though they were installed by brew).

I think macports does allow you to build/install gimp from source with one
command. I don't want to revert to using macports because I prefer brew,
but will if absolutely necessary.

I'm emailing the list to ask: is there anyone else building plugins on a
mac? Did you have issues getting set up? Is there really no way to build
plugins other than by building all of gimp from source?

Thanks,
Jason

ok. I missed the earlier part of the thread. It read to me like someone was

That sounds like a bad idea. People will rely on the warning to be there so
they can cancel the export and do something appropriate. Suddenly stopping to
show it will make them complain.

We briefly discussed this a while ago. Ideally, we should provide some sort
of SDK package for macOS. But our .dmg maintainer is a busy dude with not
much spare time.

I'm sure that Partha will share some knowledge on building plug-ins for
macOS. He's been doing that for quite a while.

No, I'm not.

There's two header lines from the your message which started the current
topic:

Note the "In-Reply-To". You have started this message by replying to an
existing message and changed the subject. You shouldn't do this, as it
gets threading all wrong.

This can be avoided by starting a new mail message to the list address
for new topics.

On 06/23/17 14:14, Bert de Jong wrote:

When saving a JPG, please warn if there is transparency.
Currently GIMP saves such images without warnings and just uses the
current background color.
I think a lot of people do not use XCF and are used to saving
transparency to PNG and GIF files.

I think it's customary for GIMP to warn when operations initiated by
the user will be performed slightly different than the user might
expect.
An example is when scaling indexed images.
It then says: "Indexed color layers are always scaled without
interpolation. The chosen interpolation type will affect channels and
layer masks only."

Thanks.

Given the number of times I've seen people complaining about the loss of
transparency, that would be a good idea.

What Gimp could have is either a counter of the number of times a
warning has been issued (and stop issuing it after a while) or a "Don't

So that people treat it like something annoying and disable it, then still
run into the issue?

Personally, I'd rather see a combobox in JOEG exporting options to select

Revert your libmypaint to a commit prior to the current one.

[Gimp-developer] request

2017-06-24 Thread Bert de Jong
When saving a JPG, please warn if there is transparency.
Currently GIMP saves such images without warnings and just uses the
current background color.
I think a lot of people do not use XCF and are used to saving
transparency to PNG and GIF files.

I think it's customary for GIMP to warn when operations initiated by
the user will be performed slightly different than the user might
expect.
An example is when scaling indexed images.
It then says: "Indexed color layers are always scaled without
interpolation. The chosen interpolation type will affect channels and
layer masks only."

Thanks.

Bert de Jong, Elicom B.V.
