Re: feedback from users: iscissors

2000-01-20 Thread L. Jack Reese

Hello all,

Please pardon my poor attention span...
I think I must have missed some previous messages about "iscissors"
since it is in the subject line but not in the message. Is there an
archive where I can see what has been going on with iscissors?

Thanks,

"Hollywood". I think they want to do that. Even if they don't, Hollywood
is needed to store the colours (8 bit just isn't enough).

Scavenging the mail folder uncovered David Monniaux's letter:

having generic color-spaces and a way to access an image trought a
color-space and have it automagically converted would be awfull.
any project to include other color spaces rather that RGB in the GIMP?

feedback from users: iscissors

2000-01-18 Thread David Monniaux

I forgot: it seems that intelligent scissors work more or less nowadays.
Kudos!

I have some slight stuff to add. It seems that many selection functions
using color comparisons to test limits of areas (iscissors, by color
select...) use RGB space. Experience shows that human perception of area
limits in an image don't quite follow the limits found by the program, I
can perhaps conclude RGB space is inappropriate.

As far as I remember, the eye distinguishes well the value, then the hue
and saturation much less. Furthermore, the value is highly influenced by
the lighting, so we might have to deal with significant differences
because of shadows.

A parametric comparison system in HSV space might be interesting.
