 Dear Documentators!

I like your HTML manuals, and I very often use GIMP. I'm working as a
system administrator, and I want to create manuals like yours (eg.
 this http://docs.gimp.org/en/preface.html#gimp-team).

I'm looking for the (programming) language / standard / syntax
information of the manual pages, and that software, what can generate
 these nice HTML pages.

Can you tell me these informations?

This manual is a mix of different technologies.

xml-docbook - for the manual structure and HTML/PDF conversion
xml2po - for the internationalization of the doc
make (via autoconf/automake) - for the test/updated of the po files/compilation

Please note that this approach could be seen as trying to kill mosquitos
with a bazooka for any doc less than 100 pages...

There could be many other (easier) way to the same.

See google for markdown for an example, or you can consider using a wiki
(like mediawiki) with an pdf/epub plugin.

Your mileage may vary.

I could touch a small file, write the date and perhaps processing time
into it and sync it too. Would that do?

IMHO perfect!

Great new!

So - if you find anything not beeing updated, let me please know. If
there are any security concerns with an rsync + ssh connection to

This nightly update is only temporary, until we can move it to the

[Gimp-docs] commercial question

2011-02-04 Thread Marco Ciampa
I saw that there is the GIMP manual in paper format sold by Amazon, in
english and spanish.

Is there any violation?
Is there any income to the GIMP doc team?
It is possible to sell an italian copy too?
What could be the best way to share some money with the GIMP doc team?
Is it right or best avoid all this and write something new?

BTW I'm currently the main italian translator/revisor/maintainer/author
project starter...

  Hello everybody,
  I found that this page:

  http://docs.gimp.org/2.6/it/gimp-tutorial-quickie-flip.html

is untranslated in the html output. This is weird since the doc is
valid and the translation is _not_ missing in the .po file:
   tutorial.po

  What is goning on?

  Maybe it's just dated?

I had a similar problem a while ago and got this answer from Ulf:

Maybe your po file is created with a different xml2po program than
your pot file, and this led to slightly different translations
  (with/without placeholder).

Then you should touch the relevant src files and re-make the po files.

 It solved my problem.

(If you are using Cygwin, the docbook-xsl installed by default is
 outdated. Install a newer version, i.e. v. 1.75.x).
 Kolbjoern
Done:

touch src/tutorial/quickies.xml
make html-it

It doesn't work.

PS: I have ubuntu 9.10...
