So why not delete the branch and re-push it as new
branch with the proper name gimp-help-2-8-2 ?

It is the tag for the 2.8.2 release of the docs.

If we delete the tag, then providing the corresponding source for any
GIMP-Manual 2.8.2 package out there could become difficult.

Tags are commonly used for this purpose.

How about deleting the tag? What was useful for anyway?

I know a joke about UDP, but you might not get it.

There's both a tag and a branch called GIMP_HELP_2_8_2, see
https://git.gnome.org/browse/gimp-help-2/refs/

The tag has been made on that same branch, so I'm reluctant to try to
fix this.

[Gimp-docs] GIMP_HELP_2_8_2 is ambiguous

2017-02-17 Thread Kolbjørn Stuestøl
I used "git clone ssh://< …>/git/gimp-help-2" to make a local copy of
gimp-help-2.
Just to try out whether I remember the procedures or no, I made a few
changes in 3 files and "commit" and "push" them (after running "git
pull"). When running "git push" I got among other messages this message:

"remote: error: refname 'GIMP_HELP_2_8_2' is ambiguous"

A minute later the three files showed up in
https://git.gnome.org/browse/gimp-help-2/log/. All seems OK.

As it does not seem to be a serious error, I am just curious why this
occurs. Perhaps it can be fixed in some way?
