Make sure you have Show Brush Outline turned on in the preferences.

the way to go is to turn off alt actions on KDE.
Do this:
launch kcontrol, click in 'look and feel'- window behavior-actions
and on the bottom pane, where it reads modifier key + left button,
change the action to nothing. Apply, and happy gimping!
