Re: [Gimp-user] slow loading 15mb tiff file.

2006-09-18 Thread Sven Neumann
Hi,

this file is an image of 19680 x 17715 pixels. Since it's stored with
indexed colors, the file is relatively small. However to load and
display this image, GIMP will need to allocate about 1.3 GB of memory.
If you don't have enough memory and the tile cache size set high enough,
GIMP can still load this file. But it will need to swap tiles out to
disk and that's what makes loading and working with this image so slow.

There are some things we could do to improve this situation. But nobody
is actively working on such low-level changes at the moment so don't
expect this to improve soon.

[Gimp-user] Java api

2006-09-18 Thread Magnus Hellström
Hello,
I'm using GIMP in batch mode to run script-fu scripts from java code.
However, running scripts in batch mode does not completetly meet my
requirements since I wan't to interact with the result from the
scripts. Therefore, I need some api to run GIMP from Java. Is there a
stable Java api to GIMP? Or any alternative solutions to interact with
the scripts?

Thanks

There is http://jgimp.sourceforge.net/

However, this was created for GIMP 1.2, has AFAIK never been very popular and
isn't maintained anymore, apparently.

 Hello,

What problems are you trying to solve? Putting aside the programming
languages we may be able to suggest something very similiar to what you
are looking for which would require little or no programming. Other tools
like DBP might be of some use to you

[Gimp-user] Reduce Resolution

2006-09-18 Thread Thomas w. Cranston

How do I reduce the resoltion of a 27 MB jpg so that I can email it?

I am thinking I need to reduce it to several hundred KB

The image is coming off a CD I had made when I had some photos developed
and printed.

Same question for if I scan something and want to reduce its resolution.

You just need to decrease size of image, not resolution. ImageScale image
