When I use the drop-shadow filter, I see the checkerboard around the image
-- not a
drop shadow. I've tried changing the background, tried duplicating the
layer and
working on that. I've also looked through some tutorials which are
well-written and
clear and it looks so easy -- can someone
I would like to capture a screen shot from google books, but the dragging
neccesary to define a region to capture is already used by the iceweasel
(browser) window to mean move in image.
How can I set up alternative bindings to drag so the screenshot gimp dialog
will capture the image i want.
I've made a complete set of RPMs available for Fedora 10, and 8.

Are you trying to make a drop shadow for an object against a transparent
background? At least it sounds like this to me. (Otherwise, you don't
get the checkerboard
