[Gimp-user] GIMP needs to close (!)
Hi, again. I appreciate you guys taking the time to help me with GIMP. I have checked everything you've suggested, and I find nothing at all. The exception is the application event viewer, and I don't know how to use that. I looked all through the error messages that were generated when GIMP had to shut down. There were many pages specs on lots of modules, but it meant nothing to me. There was nothing like a concluding message at the bottom. In fact, the last 10 pages of the bug report generated for GIMP was nothing but code--it looked like GIMP wanted to see my whole Registry! I uninstalled GIMP again--and scrubbed out every last bit of clutter left behind. I then installed an earlier version of GIMP, 2.6.4. But no luck; it shut itself down the instant before it was ready to open. I am about ready to give up on GIMP. Maybe in a year or so I'll try it again. In this case, I really think I need to talk with somebody at GIMP or with an expert users forum. GIMP has no public access, though, and I've not found any kind of expert forum (i.e., not one that deals with GIMP use and applications). Any last suggestions here? I was starting to like GIMP, especially since it was shareware, but I can use PhotoShop and PSP for awhile. I'll check back later, just in case you guys have any ideas about where I might go with this. [Gimp-user] One GIMP installation, two different appearances....
Friends, Running GIMP 2.6.4 under Windows XP, on a machine with two user partitions, both with access to the same installation of GIMP. Somehow just recently, running the installation of GIMP as one user, the GIMP toolbox, and the Layers-channels-paths-undo dialog boxes do not generate file buttons on the Toolbar, that is, when I launch GIMP I see a single button, even though the main GIMP window, the toolbox, and the dialog box all open on the desktop. When running as another user, when I launch GIMP, I still see the behavior I am accustomed to, that is, at launch, I see the main window, the toolbox, and the Layers - channels - pahts - undo dialog dock. It seems most likely to me that somehow without realizing it, I managed to change a user preference somehow in the one user, but if the documentation shows where or how I managed to do this, I cannot find it, and I don't see anything obvious when I open the user preference dialog that seems to me to why the same copy if GIMP works differently in the two areas. Since I hadn't yet done so, I upgraded my GIMP to 2.6.5, and see that the different appearances in the two users persisted despite the upgrade. ns ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user
[Gimp-user] Method to add File Menu to Toolbox?
So just forget about the idea of adding a file menu to the toolbox. The toolbox is not a normal toplevel window any longer, it's just a utility window for the active image window. Sven Sorry, I'm not going to forget about it. I want it back the way it was - with the File menu at the top of the toolbox window, the toolbox window behaving as a normal toplevel window, and no default blank image window. It's much more convenient that way. The new layout is just annoying and the change is pointless. So. How does one go about restoring the File menu to the toolbox window and getting rid of the redundant default image window? Thankyou. -- Pigeon ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user

It's much more convenient that way. Hi Pigeon There is no way to get the menu back and no such way is going to be added. The only way to get a menu in the toolbox is to use GIMP 2.4. There were many reasons to get rid of the toolbox menu, one being that two menubars in one application is just plain wrong. For more reasoning behind the change, refer to the UI specification [1] BR, Martin [1] http://gui.gimp.org/index.php/No_image_open_specification ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user
[Gimp-user] Path Tool inop.
I have finally ghotten the use of Text Circle to an easily used function for creating circular text at the top of my CD lables when suddenly I get a forbidden synbol attached to Path Tool for creating upright circular text at the bottom. OUCH! It was working perfectly 29 hours ago. I'm running a Biostar motherboard, an AMD dual core Athlon with two gig of DDR2 667mhz Kingston memory. The unit is built by myself and is loaded with Ubuntu Linux in the form of Ubuntu Studio v.8.10, the Intrepid Ibex and it is running Gimp 2.6. -- Bill T. ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user

If I remember right there may be more than 1 source of gimp for windows, in the old days we had to install gtk separately from gimp, the installer I have used recently took care of this for me, but you might look at what is installed gtk wise. (should show up in add remove programs. Also if people knew where your gimp came from that might help also. (you might also find some help on that site.) Abiword is another program that uses gtk, you could try installing that, if abiword works, give gimp one more try.
