[Gimp-user] GEGL crashes Gimp 2.6.6 on XP
Von: Martin Nordholts ense...@gmail.com GIMP 2.6.6 has had really bad stability on Windows and no one knows why. And not everyone is affected by it. Hopefully it will disappear as quickly in 2.6.7 as it appeared in 2.6.6. Please note that this does mean that - to my knowledge - no one is working to fix this, because no problem has been identified that could be fixed. We're really just hoping that this is an issue of the build rather than a bug in the GIMP source. HTH, Michael Thanks for the info. I can use everything else and was looking to explore the GEGL operations. I will wait for the next build. Von: redakt...@cardriver.dk But how. It wont open in layers as it does when opened in Fireworks. Can anyone explain why? Don't GIMP support PNG's Fireworks stores private data in parts of the PNG files. Unfortunately they didn't change the file extension, thus making people think that PNG would support all this stuff by default. If you used Fireworks to work on this file before, then you will have to continue to use it. [Gimp-user] How to Combine Layers with Feathered or Softened Edges
I am trying to combine images scanned from microfilm in the case where the lens on the microfilm scanner is too powerful to permit me to scan an entire page into a single image file. I believe that this application is similar to trying to create a landscape from multiple photographs. I scan the original into a PDF containing multiple images. I then open this PDF as layers. I have been able to rearrange the layers, raise and lower them, and merge them to create a single image file, but I have 2 problems: 1) Sometime the key spots within the layers which I need to line up prior to merging the layers are not right on the edge of either layer. To perform the alignment I need to make at least the outer portion of the upper layer partially transparent so I can properly align them. 2) Once I am finished the contrast between the two layers is generally such that the edge of the upper layer is clearly visible in the merged result. Once again if I could make the outer edge of the upper layer transparent on a gradient to fully transparent at the edge, I could make the edge invisible. I think of this operation as feathering the layer, but searching through the documentation and web guides I can only find feathering as applicable to images, not layers. The following is an example of the result I currently have: http://www.jamescobban.net/Ontario/images/B1912_33007.jpg Combined image from microfilm. -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/How-to-Combine-Layers-with-Feathered-or-Softened-Edges-tp24592342p24592342.html Sent from the Gimp User mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user

Should GIMP then also include matching GTK+ and GLib? And other mandatory dependencies? The hangup for many users is gegl and babl, and not the other requirements. The distros are more likely to include them. perhaps it is because gegl and babl are relatively new libraries, while the others have been with us for quite a while. Users don't build software from source. If you are building software yourself, then you are a developer. And you shouldn't really have a problem to compile these libraries then. If you have questions, you are of course free to ask them and we will try to help. But please don't ask us to simplify the build process in such awkward ways. The source tree is not aimed at users. Users should use whatever their distro offers. Sven ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user
