You can also use Photoshop brush files (*.abr). Although I don't know if
they fully functional in Gimp, but the basics should work.

Thanks for the directions, they seem a bit linux-centric for me dozing
over Windoze, and failing to mention that. If I can unpack a tar to an
HTML, will my Windoze make such a difference?

Your image was not saved, which would have been saving to XCF.

Check you documentary history in GIMP, may be some intermediate stage is
left in temp.
