I am running GIMP 2.6...and noticed lately that the file type chooser
type box is almost useless. When you click on the type a long thin box
opens and you can't see the types.
You can see what I mean here :

Can anyone suggest what's wrong ?

I have checked the roadmap for GIMP and I have seen that the Unified transform
tool can be expected in version 3.8. (ugh)
Now what I would like to ask is there any tool or plugin for GIMP that can
transform my selections? Or is there any open source image editor that can do
it.

Before I could be of much help, I'd need to know exactly what kind of
transformations you want to do. For example, select a particular image
(to which you might provide a link) and describe exactly what you'd like
changed.
