Re: [Gimp-user] problem with genius 8x6 tablet and gimp
Hi everyone, This is my first post to the list and I'm still a GIMP newbie so I apologise in advance if I've violated a posting convention or sound particularly naive. Ohad: The problem is that the x-axis doens't react as it should. for example - if I user a brush tool - I get two cursors - one with a brush where the pen is and another where it actualy draws. If someone thinks it might help clarify the problem, I will be happy to upload a screen capture image of the problem. I've experienced my y-axis being uncontrollable (with the x axis mapping fine) but it was not accompanied by two cursors. Could you elaborate a bit more on what your specific problem is? Unfortunately I don't remember how I fixed my y-axis problem (sorry - was also on an Aiptek not Genius tablet) but a screen capture might be useful. I have also experienced a two-cursor situation but that was due to settings for a Wacom tablet. The tablet was configured within GIMP to map to within the program window, thus creating two cursors when the operating system additionally mapped it to the context of the entire desktop frame (I don't know what the proper terms are sorry). I rectified this by configuring the tablet in GIMP to the context of the desktop frame as well. Have you checked Preferences Input Devices Configure Extended Input Devices in case that's the reason? [Gimp-user] Tablet clicking problems
Hello everyone. I wonder if anyone is able to help me with two issues concerning my wacom intuos3's behaviour in gimp. I am using gimp 2.6.7, in ubuntu 9.10 with kde. 1. My tablet has worked fine for months now - I do not use the mouse in gimp. I have a keybinding to bring up the tool options dialog every time I need to change some setting on whatever tool I am using, which I then click using the tablet pen. However, recently I often find I can't click anything. Instead, after raising the dialog, I have to tab multiple times to get to the particular setting I want to alter, and use spacebar/direction keys to set it. This happens with other dialogs too. If I could make a shortcut key for the exact setting this would sidestep the issue. I have shortcuts for changing general brush opacity and brush size, but I can't find more specialised functions in the Shortcuts list, including pressure-related opacity/size, jitter, brush selection etc. a) Is there any way to manually keybind functions that are not available in the Keyboard Shortcuts list? b) Does anyone know how to fix the unresponsiveness of the dialog? 2. I tried using fluxbox instead of kde so that I could handle large images without lagging. However, in fluxbox gimp only registers every second tablet brushstroke - i have never had this issue in kde. The alternate brushstroke is a dummy brushstroke, does not change the canvas and is not recognised in the History. This is very disruptive when I am trying to paint something as I usually have no idea whether my current stroke is a real one or not, and it usually takes me multiple attempts to produce a single useful stroke - needless to say wearing down the pen nib (probably out of frustration). Has anyone come across this problem and is there a solution? Thanks to everyone in advance! Re: [Gimp-user] GIMP plugin for faking a newspaper frontpage image
Personally, I thought (and still believe) that this can easily be done using a GIMP plugin in which one somehow selected the parts where the real image was located on the newspaper and then the plugin would perform some magic (skew etc.) to replace it with the other picture. It could be done with a displacement map fairly easily, or possibly the curve bend tool. Yep. Like this? http://i41.tinypic.com/2gt1yxh.png I made this entire thing in about 45 mins from scratch, but if obv. you didn't want to paint a tree, design a newspaper, etc you could probably do it faster. To get the skew, I used the displacement map with a perfectly horizontal black/white gradient layer, then perspective distort, then rotate. For realism you'd have more variations with the gradient layer, and the pixellation would be solved if you had a bigger starting resolution. No 3D model. Hope that helped. ~ X ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user

By the way, how can I select the background layer? By default, it always selects the image object Hi John, I've replied this email on the list, rather than to you personally, so that others can help/be helped. I'm not quite sure what you mean by an image object - GIMP is, in general, a raster editor so we don't really use objects. You can access the layers dialog by Windows - Dockable Dialogs - Layers (should be in the second section). That shows a preview list of the layers you have on your image and you can select the specific layer from there. You might wish to read http://docs.gimp.org/2.6/en/gimp-image-combining.html#gimp-concepts-layersfor more information about layers.
