And I wonder now if there could be another GIMP version or build for Mac that would be more optimized for this platform. Does anyone know about any? To tell you about other builds, you should have told us where you got your GIMP version from? There are a couple of prebuild packages for OS X out there - e.g. GIMP.app at http://gimp-app.sf.net . The most optimized solution however might be to build GIMP on your own machine. To do so I'd recommend you have a look to darwinports at http://www.macports.org I know that there is a GIMP-related project named Seashore. It has a clean interface, but it is meanless to me, as it lacks most of the features I like to use... Seashore has nothing to do with GIMP, except that some of the basic technologies that where developed for GIMP were used for a new application. Concerning features is Seashore much closer to Paint than to The GIMP. One other question... Is there a completely universal Mac version? Some weeks ago, I tryed to run the GIMP in a MacBook Pro (Intel C2D) and there were no Filters, and the cursor had a funny aspect Does anyone here use the GIMP under MacOS X in the new Intel Macs? Which version? And does everything work ok? GIMP.app (see above) is AFAIK a universal package. Also building GIMP on your own machine gets you a i386 binary version. Both, the yellow colored cursor as well as the missing filters are known phenomenon. One can be fixed in the GIMP preferences, and the other was (most likely) due to some bug in the GTK libraries and could be worked around by special environment variables. [Gimp-user] all Filters gone
Hi list, finally I got GIMP 2.2.10 compiled on the Intel Mac that arrived last week. The whole process of ./configure; make; make install run very smooth. No problems at all. Starting the GIMP up works without any unexpected messages. Unfortunately when I opened an image I had to discover that the whole filters menu contained only three menu items for resetting and redoing a filter but no filters or even submenus at all. After that I had a look into the preferences to check the path for plug-ins as well as a look into that according directory. Everything looks good in here, all the filters are there as binaries. So big question: what can I do to get the filters back? Any hints are appreciated. greetings, lexA --- Live is like a chocolate box, you never know what you wanna get... That might be change in future with the hopefully upcoming native gtk+ for OS X. It's not a GUI slowdown that I'm talking about --- it's ops like doing an unsharp mask..ok, thats different of course. I did some comparisons a while back between linux on an athlon 1800+ (1.5 ghz), and macosx on an 800mhz g4, and for an 8 megapixel image, linux was taking 18s to do the unsharp mask, and the mac was taking 75s --- much slower than the relative clock speeds. For comparison, Photoshop takes about 5s to do the unsharp mask on the mac.wow. I'm using a [EMAIL PROTECTED] myself (I like the iBook :), but didn't know that other platforms are performing that much better... It does make it pretty painful to use. I was actually contemplating buying photoshop - but I've been using the gimp for so long I don't want to switch[x] I was going to fire up a profiler and see what's happening - but the last time I tried I couldn't get the gimp to compile through fink...may be I can help here, I'm running the most recent beta (2.3.5) from fink (kind of) I have a fink.info file that only needs to be stored in the right place and then a fink install gimp23 will do :). Just write me an email if you are interested. The file is not in the official fink distribution tough. I assume that the code isn't using X to do the actual bitmap manipulations, so I doubt the native gtk+ implemenation will help me here. It'll still be nice though... :-)well, may be we can tackle that other performance issues too - I'd be _very_ interested in that by myself.lexA Warren ___Gimp-user mailing listGimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDUhttps://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user --- Live is like a chocolate box, you never know what you wanna get... Hi list, I'm one of the members of the gimp documentation team and want to ask you for a favour. To reduce the size of all the screenshots to the clipping that is of relevance I'm in need of a template that I can easily use to cut of the unwanted borders. To make clear that there is something cut of from the picture, the border should be look similar to a sawtooth - an irregular one - bit hard to describe, but I'm pretty sure you know what I mean.
