I have been trying to make a sci-fi ship
texture... and i have come to a problem.
I find that layers do not have an opacity
setting and masks do, but masks can only be black and white...
how would i make it color?

To get the fish behind the tree you need to have the tree on one
layer, the fish on another layer, and the rest of the scene on
yet another layer.
If you can cut out both the tree and the fish, then you can
simply layer them above the original background; Grokking the
gimp uses laye

trying to do some layer manipulation ie: paste an object in a scene and
have the object be 'behind' the scene ie: fish behind a tree ( okay weird
but its in the groking the gimp )...I can do it 'manually' using the
example in groking the gimpbut I know i've done it before
