Script-Fu crashes others?
Hi, I upgraded to the new Gimp 1.2.1 but I still get Script-Fu crashes, especially on the Puzzle plugin. Gimp itself is fine. Anyone else has this? -- Jonathan Gift

Hi, Thanks again for all the help, but the cleanest and easiest is to use Gimp. I found an option under Filters -Render-Dynamic Test which brings up a box where you can enter text or import a text file. It then goes in on a transparent background. No mess, no fuss... This is obviously old news to all those placing kernel code samples on their wallpaper background on Themes... -- Jonathan Gift

Segfault on Gimp1.2 Script-Fu?
Hi, I have the Ximian debian potato compiled gimp installed and every so often I get a segmentation fault using various filters. The Puzzle one did it to me several times when rapidly scrolling through a number setting. Is this me or do others get this? Is it Gimp, Script-Fu, a badly written script, or my install is missing something? Thanks for any pointers. -- Jonathan Gift

Hi, With the cal 2001 command I can get the year's calendar displayed on a terminal or shot to a file. Q: How can I use that as background, as in paste? Any ideas. Thanks. -- Jonathan Gift

Ximian doesn't, compiling does. I thought we were talking about that. It's why I didn't compile but got the Ximian package. It required gimp and a few new files. That was it. You should be able to compile Gimp 1.2 on Potato by getting Gtk+ 1.2.8 I have it. from someplace - the Ximian libgtk1.2 and libglib1.2 packages should install without requiring anything else from Ximian. Everything else needed for building Gimp 1.2 is available in Potato. Then why did I get a notice about having to upgade my perl library and if you look at the gimp perl deb source, it does indeed require woody's version of perl and not potato. I don't get it, becaue if that was the case, how come Ximian got it up and running on potato? Jonathan
Q: Gradient Transparent -Color?
Hi, I want to darken parts of a pic so up to now I've layered in a black to color gradient. But better would be to leave parts transparent and so was wondering if I lay down, and how, a gradient that goes from transparent to a color. In other words, a gradualy appearing color? Thanks. Jonathan

What's with .xvpics dir?
Hi, With the new gimp1.2 I just noticed .xvpics directories popping up like mushrooms. This something to do with preview settings? Or? How do I turn this off and is this a good thing? Thanks. Jonathan

Anyway to change ~/.gimp-1.2 name?
Hi, I posted this earlier but part of a longer message. I have the new Helix compiled Gimp 1.2 and the installtion program offers me only the .gimp-1.2 home directory. I've tried changing the path in preferences and no go. So, is this particular to this build, or all the new Gimp 1.2? Gimp 1.04 defaulted to .gimp and I'd like that if I can hack it. None of the other apps does it and it sort of stands out... Thanks. Jonathan

Hi, The Xemian gimp 1.2 seems to have done the trick. It does go in as ~/.gimp-1.2. Is this particular to the new gimp or this build? Any way to get an old generic .gimp (I moved my earlier one so as to avoid just this). Thanks. Jonathan

Nope, on the edge and in about 2 inches on my 17 inch monitor. But I think the problem involves my saving it to jpg. That's when I see the problem. In the original it's not there. Smoothing gradient Q...
Hi, I'm doing a left to right gradient, dark blue to black so that a narrow 2 inch bank of blue apperas before fading into black. the problme is that the band has uneven bars of various hue there. I notice the banding doesn't take place if I use the gradient red pipe plugin. It renders it and all gradients flawless. Just the standard... Any other thing you can think of s appreciated. Creating smoke?
Hi, Now I'm new to this list and so don't know if this is appropriate... I'd like to create some swirling smoke as from someone smoking and have tried swirl, etc on a grey gradient but doesn't quite cut it. Hs this been done and how?
