[Gimp-user] Create new Layer - Modifiers

2016-12-17 Thread akovia
I constantly use the Shift modifier to "create a new layer with last
used values", but I'd love the ability to extend this with the CTRL
modifier to place the new layer *under* the current layer. I realize
it's a small thing to drag the layer after it's placed to wherever you
want it, but I'm always looking for ways to streamline with shortcuts
wherever possible.

On that same note, would it be possible to use other combos to place the
type of layer you want directly?

Shift + B (Click New Layer) = New Layer with Background Color

Ctrl + Shift + B (Click New Layer) = New Layer with Background Color
Under current layer

Shift + T (Click New Layer) = New Transparent Layer

Ctrl + Shift + T (Click New Layer) = New Transparent Layer Under
current layer
etc...

I realize that some of those combos are already used (minus the
clicking), but if the action was available, it could be customized to
the user preference.

Cheers

[Gimp-user] Cannot install GIMP on snow leopard

2016-12-17 Thread jjcrowley85
Please help. I am attempting to install GIMP on Snow leopard and having trouble.
I downloaded GiMP double click to open and I see the GIMP logo/icon I drag to
applications. I try to double click to open it from applications and it says
that it was downloaded from the internet are you sure you want to open. I click
open and the pop up closes and nothing else happens. Any suggestions would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks.

[Gimp-user] Installing HELP files problem

In linux it would go in /usr/share/gimp/2.0/help/xxx where xxx is the language
version, such as en for US English and en-GB for english-English. All the html
and images folder goes there.

Then that has to match the language setting in

Edit -> Preferences -> Interface -> Language Sometime, the default setting
"System Language" does not pick up Help.

If you can get that working in OSX, you will be more successful than most.

An alternative is the excellent PDF, indexed and searchable from
http://gimp.linux.it/www/meta/

English or Italian. Whoever maintains that deserves a medal.

I cannot see the Tool Box icons they are SUPER tiny. I've changed display
settings and I've added several themes but none affect the tiny icons. It is
unworkable like this. Any help greatly appreciated.

OK so I had to go to 1280 X 768 screen resolution. Everything is huge, but at
least I can now see the icons. I also clicked on "override application settings"
in the display settings menu, but I really don't know if that also had to be
done.

Hi Kevin the link you provided for themes is not working and I have similar
problems as DAWO. The icons in toolbox are so small you can hardly see they're
even there or what they are. My displays default is 3840 X 2160, however I've
tried lowering to 1920 X1080 and still no change. Everything else on my PC is
large except the pesky icons.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: [Gimp-user] Find and Replace

2016-12-17 Thread Richard
Unfortunately, there is a reason that search/replace functions work best with
text

In terms of image contents, what constitutes "similar" enough to qualify as a
match? Pixels and RGB values (within a certain threshold)? Is the pixel in
question a layer pixel or the end result of a layer group (or the whole image
layer stack) ? And for a given source area, how much (as a %) of the target
area must be similar to the source to consider it a match? If there are
several matches, are they allowed to overlap (and if so, what happens next) ?

Now if you want to manually copy/paste one segment of an image into another,
aside from the obvious Edit menu commands you can also use the Clone tool to do
this. Make a selection around the target area, specify your source area, then
paint the target area.

Subject: [Gimp-user] Find and Replace

How about a feature where you select something, click Find and it selects
all of the matching areas in the image. Click Find and Replace and it
selects all of the matching areas where you can then de-select or select
new areas if you want to, each of the size of the initial selection, and it
brings up another GIMP editor window where you can replace the content in
those areas with an edited image which can then be applied to each of the
selected areas, with an option to do each in its own layer so you can apply
different modes on it?

I could've used this feature today.

Is it possibly a problem with "Gatekeeper" in OS X? There's some
information on the Apple site about using apps with it:

You are using Snow Leopard.

I don't know where you obtained your build, so I can't tell if your build
would be supported in such an old version of OSX.
