All the best,

*Libre Graphics Meeting 2015: Beyond The First Decade*
http://libregraphicsmeeting.org/2015/call-for-participation/

The tenth annual international Libre Graphics Meeting 2015 will take place 29
April – 2 May 2015 in Toronto, Canada.
This yearly event is an occasion for teams and individual contributors/artists
involved in Libre Graphics to work together, to share experiences and to hear
about new ideas.

By Libre Graphics we mean Free, Libre and Open Source tools for design,
illustration, photography, typography, art, graphics, page layout, publishing,
cartography, animation, video, interactive media, generative graphics and
visual live-coding. The Libre Graphics Meeting is not just about software, but
extends to standards, file formats and actual use of these in creative work.

We are looking for:

* In-depth presentations of Libre Graphics code-contributions
* Showcases of excellent work made using Libre Graphics tools
* New and experimental projects in this area to meet the wider community
* Reports, use-cases, best practices
* Talks that show the accomplishments and strides that Libre Graphics has made
in its first decade and what it can do next

Available formats (times include QA):

* Lightning talk (7 minutes, selected at the event unconference style)
* Presentations (20 minutes)
* Entry for State of the Libre Graphics Union (1-2 slides)
* Workshops (1 or 2 hours)*
* Birds Of a Feather (BOF), discussion meetings or Hackathons (2 hrs or more)

*State of the Libre Graphics Union*
We will kick off the event with a joint session that sums up all things that
have happened in our wide landscape over the last year. Instead of slots in
the schedule for general updates on each and every Libre Graphics project, we
invite you to submit a maximum of two slides, showcasing new abilities and/or
text enumerating the leaps forward that your project made.

*Special focus: Beyond The First Decade*
Because 2015 marks the tenth edition of LGM, the focus this year is on the past
and future of Libre Graphics. We have a special interest this year in projects
that show where Libre Graphics has been, what distances it has travelled, and
where it might go in the next ten years. We welcome submissions representing
the broad ecology of Libre Graphics, from full-fledged software packages, to
artist-built scripts, to art and publications, and even the cultural
touchstones and issues present in Libre Graphics communities. We’re looking for
talks, workshops and other events that show the accomplishments and strides
that Libre Graphics has made in its first decade and what it can do next.

[Gimp-user] GUI Problems - clicking (LB) doesn't work sometimes

2015-01-07 Thread thebunnyrules
Interference of a similar kind is known to be triggered by Kaspersky
Antivirus, Camtasia, SnagIt, Camstudio and allegedly TuneUp Utilities.

Doesn't have to be their fault, but some hints from any of them could
help to find the real cause (maybe somewhere in GTK+?).

If you run any of these, try to disable them for a while (with caution
in the case of Kaspersky, of course) and check if you can reproduce
the
problem.

Hi Micheal, thanks for the feedback. I actually don't run any antiviruses at all
but it may be something else interfering. I have a few things running in the
background but they're mostly application running in the background that have
very little interaction with the actual Windows OS or GTK. I might try going to
ms-config and try turning everything off to rule out the interference.

[Gimp-user] GUI Problems - clicking (LB) doesn't work sometimes

2015-01-07 Thread thebunnyrules

So, nobody has posted any feedback or thought and the UI of this forum doesn't
tell me if anyone's read the post. Just wondering if anyone else has had any
issues of this sort on Windows?

Also, am I posting in the right forum? Is this forum for both Linux and Windows
ports of Gimp or is it Linux only?

I'm going to try to install 2.8.14 on another PC with a very similar setup. If
it works well over there, it might be just related to my own setup on this one.

Re: [Gimp-user] GTK3 port status and nightly builds?

2015-01-07 Thread Simon Budig

Is there a Roadmap of the current problems with GTK3?

The main problem is, that Gimp has a library used by 3rd party plugins
which provides some GTK+2-Widgets for plugin-ui. Switching to GTK+3
would make these libraries ABI-incompatible with older
libgimpwidgets-versions. And since we promise ABI-stability for the Gimp
2.x series this makes it impossible to switch to GTK+3 without switching
to a new major (i.e. 3.x) version.

But since we're not ready for a 3.x release (feature-wise) we're between
a rock and a hard place here. It is a PITA, but well. Happens.

Bye,
Simon

 Not in a written way.

Are there tests that fail?

Will it be possible to use GTK3 without waiting for all stuff to be
 ported to GECL?

Not unless you personally (or somebody else) complete the GTK3 port, sorry.

I can, and so can you.

 Is it easy?

It was easy enough for me.

 Not in a written way.

 Are there tests that fail?

Not that I know of. AFAIK, bits of UI like custom widgets (e.g. the
ruler) haven't been ported yet.

Re: [Gimp-user] Processing RAW pics?

2015-01-07 Thread Ruud Amesz
I devide my workflow between Rawtherapee and Gimp. Correcting exposure,
color temperature, whitebalance etc I do in Rawtherapee.
The rest, for instance levels, curves, crop, usm, text and everything where
you need layers for, I do in Gimp.

An alternative to Ufraw is Rawthrapee.
You have to save the result of Rawtherapee as a tiff file.
 Works fine!

Thx, Ruud. If you use Rawthrapee for post, why would you need GIMP as well?
