As mentioned by others, try to soften and diffuse your flash. Even a piece
of white paper or a handkerchief in front of the flash will help.
lumiquest.com may have something you can use.

default behavior to be click-to-pick, but this looks like one of those cases
where only moving the current (active) layer is a preferable default
I have also found that putting my cursor on something solid in the layer I
want to move--the middle of a filled letter of text, an object--will also
move only the target layer.
But I like that "shift+click" trick, too.
