1.Usually it comes as default setting in many applications, not just GIMP.
If you don't have/care_about other shortcuts you've already set, reset
keyboard shortcuts to default values in Preferences>Interface
but nothing changes in actual GIMP usage?

this is my first post in this forum and hope that it won't be the last; at this
