[Gimp-user] Rotate image gest squashed

I have an image that I took in portrait, so when I view it in Gimp it is on its side. When I try to rotate it using transform the image gets squashed, (not cropped, just squashed). I cannot find any setting that allows me to keep the same image proportions. Can anyone help? thanks Steve --
