I am a rookie user...with all photo editing software; when saving JPEG images, is lowering the Quality sliding scale the same as lowering the compression setting? If not, how does one lower the compression setting in GIMP? Thx, Chuck B. ___

I downloaded Gimp to my Macbook Pro. I have Mac OS X version 10.6.8. When I tried to install it, a message came up asking me to install XQuartz. I did this and was then able to install Gimp. However, when I tried to open Gimp, it does not open. Any thoughts?
