Where did you download the .app from ? If they aren't from these two sites give them a try as I have 2.8.14 working on 10.10.4 with out problem from http://gimp.lisanet.de/Website/Download.html 2.8.14 (with extra plugins already installed G-MIC etc) & http://www.partha.com 2.9.3 pre-production McGimp-2.9.
