Um... copy a layer or selection, flip it left/right or up/down, and
mask half of it out?

I think he's talking about real-time and I'm afraid it isn't possible in 
gimp, sorry.

Um... copy a layer or selection, flip it left/right or up/down, and
mask half of it out?
