Which address(es) did you send mail to where didn't you get any reply from?

I've replied to your post on the gimp-web issue tracker (where this
doesn't really belong, but anyway) and both of your mails to
gimp-user-list-owner (within 25 minutes for the first, and first thing
in the morning for the second).

What works best depends a lot on your starting image.

You may find a tutorial will help, though. "The Artist's Guide to GIMP"
is a book i found helpful.

The main concepts you probably need here are
* image layers are like separate sheets of paper in a stack
* an "alpha channel" or a "layer mask" is needed in order for a layer
to be transparent
* right-clicking on the name of a layer in the Layers dialogue brings
up a huge menu which includes adding an alpha channel
* once a layer has an alpha channel, you can use the Erase tool to make
parts of it transparent, or you can make a selection (don't forget to
press Enter to confirm the selection if this is GIMP 2.10.10) and then
use Delete to make that selected area transparent. If you press delete
without a selection the whole layer will be deleted.

If the image backgrund is solid white use either the fuzzy select tool
(magic wand) or the Select By Colour Tool to select the background,
then delete it.
