If I were you I'd create Vectors using Inkscape and import them into the gimp. http://inkscape.org but anyway: Gfig Gears Tutorial http://gug.sunsite.dk/tutorials/illfated1/ I haven't seen (m)any others. Gfig documentation was added to the gimp at some stage during 1.2.x so if you can get a later version of 1.2.x you should find gfig documentation with it.
