This depends on a few different things. If you are using gcc 3.3, for example,
you will need more space than with gcc 3.4. But in general you should have 450
- 500M available for compiling a full GIMP from source.

Depends a lot on the compiler you are using. gcc-3.3 for example blows
up the GIMP source tree up to approx. 650MB. gcc-3.4 let's you get
away with less than 300MB.
