Shouldn't you be using a GIMP build that uses the native GTK+ Quartz
back-end instead of using X11? That might even fix your problem.

If you use ports to build GIMP yourself, try to uninstall gtk2 and then
'port install gtk2 +quartz" before you build GIMP.
