Years ago (decades really) Nikon used to sell a slide copying gadget that you mount in front of the lens, perhaps a couple hundred dollars. It was useful, but limiting.
Last summer I bought a refurbished Epson 4490 scanner from the Epson clearance store. It came with attachments and software for copying 35 mm thru 6x7 cm transparencies (and negatives). It works wonderfully - might have cost a tad over $100 US. I made a custom template out of cardboard so that I could copy my 4"x5" large format transparencies and negatives as well.
