There is a good plug-in to do this : perlotine (Filtres/Web/Perlotine)
I've tranform it to can save in jpeg and png format (the original script
just save in gif)
I've send it to Seth Burgess, but he didn't put it on the CVS server.

I send you the version from the perlotine script to slice image in
jpeg/png/gif format.
It's not mine, I've just add the jpeg.
