I have wrote a small page about my needs for printing photos:
- calibration
- use of special inks
This can be from the Gimp or with an external software.
Do you think that this is really possible (without a lot of work)?

Interesting site. BTW, I've put a new version of my version of the
Gimp print plugin (originally written by Mike Sweet) in
http://www.tiac.net/users/rlk/print.tar.gz (requires 1.1.10).
My plugin does 6-color output (for the Stylus Photo 700/EX), and it's
heavily tunable (contrast, brightness, saturation, gamma correction,
two methods of generating the lookup table, RGB levels). It should
handle inks with different color balances reasonably well. What it
doesn't do yet:
1) Save interesting settings
2) Allow definition and saving of particular sets of settings
3) Use software weaving (it uses MicroWeave, which generates some
banding in the output and is slow)
4) Lots of cleanup
I still don't understand why you've had problems with this plugin,
though; it works fine for me.
